UAE New Rule: Travellers to Declare for Possessions valued above AED 60,000

The UAE Government has introduced a new rule regarding the possession of money/valuables while entering /exiting the country. People travelling In or Out of the UAE with more than AED 60,000 in cash or an amount equivalent to this in other currencies, financial instruments, precious metals or valuable stones, must declare it to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Ports Security (ICP).

You can make the money declaration either through the official ICP website or the Afseh app, accessible in both Google pay and the App store.

For individuals under the age of 18, the amount in their possession will be added to the permitted limit of their parent/guardian or accompanier.

Items Excluded From Customs Duties

According to the ICP, travellers can bring these items without paying any taxes or duties:

  • Telescopes
  • Movie Projection devices and relevant accessories 
  • Radio, CD players and CDs
  • Video and Digital Cameras and their accesories
  • Portable music instruments
  • Portable music instruments
  • Cellphones
  • TV and receiver, one each
  • Strollers
  • Personal computer and Printers
  • Calculators
  • Wheelchairs and vehicles of specially abled people
  • Medication for personal use (in compliance with applicable regulations)
  • Clothes,Toiletries and luggage of personal nature
  • Personal Jewellery

Passengers are permitted entry and will be excluded from customs fee by meeting the following conditions:

  • Value of gifts and personal luggage does not exceed AED 3000.
  • Gifts and Luggages must not be in commercial quantity.
  • Passenger should not be a frequent traveller with goods on a regular basis or member of the respective conveyance crew. 

According to the Passenger Custom Guide issued by the Government of Dubai, the following items are exempted from custom duties and will be allowed entry;

  • A total of 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 500 grams of tobacco or minced/pressed tobacco for smoking, tumbak or hookah molasses.
  • Alcoholic beverages not exceeding 4 liters or 2 cartons of beer, each consisting of 24 cans not exceeding 355 ml for each can.

The List of Banned and Restricted Goods

  There are certain goods that are restricted by the UAE Government. The import/export of 

  These goods are banned under the Common Customs Law of the GCC States followed 

  by other regulations in the UAE.

  The import/export of these goods need prior approval from the authorities concerned prior

   to import or export.

  The following are the banned items:

  • Drugs and Narcotic substances
  • Pirated content
  • Counterfeit currency
  • Items used in black magic,witchcraft or sorcery
  • Publications/ Artwork that contradicts or challenges islamic teachings and values
  • Gambling tools and machines
