Disney is bringing a world-first attraction to the UAE.
The upcoming Disneyland Abu Dhabi will feature the first Disney castle with water as part of its design, inspired by the city’s beautiful island setting and sparkling coastline.
The plan was revealed in Disney’s We Call It Imagineering YouTube series.
Zach Riddley, Senior Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering, explained:
“Abu Dhabi is a city on the water, and we’re excited to incorporate water for the first time in the design of one of our castles.”
As a result, the Abu Dhabi castle will stand apart from every other Disney landmark worldwide and set a bold new standard for future park design
Abu Dhabi Disney Castle: Magic with Emirati Culture
Disney CEO Bob Iger calls the project “authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati.”
Similarly, Shanghai Disneyland reflects Chinese culture, and Abu Dhabi’s park will highlight UAE traditions and coastal beauty while keeping Disney’s classic storytelling alive.
Moreover, guests can expect beloved Disney characters, favorite rides, and unique design details that celebrate Emirati heritage and connect visitors to local history.
Perfect Location on Yas Island
The park will be built on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi’s top entertainment spot.
This area already hosts Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, and Ferrari World.
Therefore, it offers easy access—only 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi and about 50 minutes from Dubai—making it ideal for both residents and tourists.
In addition, Disneyland Abu Dhabi will likely feature climate-controlled attractions, shaded walkways, and air-conditioned rides.
Consequently, visitors can stay comfortable even during the UAE’s hottest months, ensuring a year-round family destination.
Opening Timeline
Disney has not confirmed an opening date.
However, large projects like this usually need 1–2 years of design work and 4–6 years of construction.
Ultimately, if everything stays on track, Disneyland Abu Dhabi could open around 2032 or 2033, becoming Disney’s first Middle East destination and home to its most innovative castle yet.
